Start with what is actually in the box
Rockstar says the physical edition of GTA VI contains a download code, with no disc included. Do not add a disc drive to your basket solely because the game listing says “physical”.
The announced console platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Check that the purchase is for your platform. For PlayStation codes, Rockstar lists which account countries each code region supports; its Xbox section says codes are not region-locked.
Choose a drive for the discs you actually need
Your existing game library may still make a drive important. Xbox lists Series S as all-digital, and Series X in both disc-drive and all-digital variants. Sony’s add-on PS5 drive needs a compatible console model and an internet connection for initial pairing.
Separate that hardware decision from GTA VI’s code-in-a-box format. Check the exact model and what is included in a used-console listing.
Compare the complete basket
Write these answers beside the listing before paying.
- Which exact console model is included, and is it one of the announced platforms?
- Is the GTA VI purchase for my platform? For a PlayStation code, is my account country in the supported group? What does the retailer guarantee about its redemption status?
- Do I need a drive for other games, and is the particular console or add-on drive compatible?
- What storage remains after my existing games, and what do the current official game requirements say about the download?
- Which accessories do I actually need, and what are the seller’s written return terms?
Keep announced features separate from measured performance
PlayStation has already announced GTA VI features including DualSense haptics, adaptive triggers and controller-speaker effects. Those are game-specific announcements; they do not turn a retailer’s frame-rate promise into a benchmark.
We have not tested GTA VI on these consoles. For a performance claim that would change your purchase, ask for the exact official specification or a documented test and its conditions. Keep the listing and the seller’s answers with your purchase record.

- Rockstar Support: GTA VI platforms, editions and versions ↗
The article, updated 18 August 2026, lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The physical edition contains a digital download code and no disc. Its detailed redemption section groups PlayStation codes by account country and explicitly says Xbox codes are not region-locked.
Checked 21 Oct 2026 - Xbox: Series S models ↗
Xbox lists the 512 GB and 1 TB Series S variants as all-digital and says they cannot play game discs. This matters for a buyer’s other disc-based games; GTA VI’s currently listed boxed edition is code-only.
Checked 21 Oct 2026 - Xbox: Series X models ↗
Xbox lists disc-drive Series X models and a 1 TB all-digital variant. Options and availability vary by market; check the exact unit rather than relying on the Series X name.
Checked 21 Oct 2026 - PlayStation: setting up a PS5 disc drive ↗
Sony identifies the CFI-2000/7000 PS5 model groups as compatible with its add-on drive and requires internet access to pair the drive during setup. A drive purchase is relevant to disc use, not the code inside GTA VI’s currently listed physical edition.
Checked 21 Oct 2026 - PlayStation: GTA VI PS5 features ↗
PlayStation announces DualSense haptics, adaptive triggers, controller-speaker effects, Tempest 3D Audio and SSD loading for GTA VI. This feature page does not provide a numeric frame-rate specification or a cross-console benchmark.
